If you aspire to be more comfortable in the kitchen, you’ve probably heard that the best way to learn to cook is by learning other chef’s recipes.

But here’s what you might not know: A rigid approach to cooking will not help you express your own creativity or flair. Food can be a tool for self-expression and healing. Following someone else's rules for a successful meal doesn't help you actually feel nourished or satiated. Cultivating a sense of inner calm and knowing will help you pay more attention to your senses, resulting in more delicious meals. Our deck helps you to foster these senses in the kitchen, giving you more space to unlock kitchen creativity.

When you start using The Herbal and Spiced Culinary Tarot, you’ll gain:

  • A greater sense of harmony with your food choices: you’ll realize how food is a support system for you beyond its nutritional value.

  • More confidence and self-reflection in other areas of life: exercising your kitchen muscles is like exercising in the gym. Developing a skillset gives you greater confidence in other places

  • An understanding of the innate intelligence of herbs: our deck gives you a suggested herb for each card’s archetype, helping you learn more about culinary herbalism as you go.

  • Happier friends and family: people are going to want to break bread with you!

The truth is, most people don’t think about the mind-body connection when it comes to their food choices. They follow recipes to a tee, or they get stuck in the rut of eating the same foods over and over again.

For one, it's easy to get in a rhythm of ignoring how to actually care for yourself. Life is busy and sometimes we put ourselves on the back burner. For another, there's a lot of rhetoric out there these days that makes food seem like the enemy rather than a source of pleasure, joy, and sustenance. It's easy to get in the habit of seeing food as a necessity rather than as a delight.

That's a problem, because everyone deserves to have a joyful and nourishing relationship with food. Food can be a tool at the best and worst times of your life— why shouldn't you relish it as an instrument for transformation and growth?

Here are 3 reasons why most home cooks fail to feel confident in their culinary creations:

Reason 1: You think you need to have great equipment, fancy knife skills, or expensive ingredients.

No way! Great cooks are adaptable— they work with what they have, they get a little scrappy when they think they’re missing something, and they think on their feet. All you need is a way to reframe how you think about cooking.

Reason 2: You think that you’re a hopeless case because no one ever taught you how to cook.

Do you have access to any of your senses? If you can see, taste, hear, or smell, then you can become a good cook. Learning to unlock your expectations about who a good cook is will help you loosen up and have more fun in the kitchen.

Reason 3: You don’t think you can tell ingredients apart from one another.

No one is born knowing the difference between cilantro and parsley. A little curiosity in the kitchen will go a long way in unlocking your culinary genius.

Most professional cooks won’t publicly say this, but the spirit and the enthusiasm that you bring to cooking are more important than technique. How do you cultivate a sense of inquisitiveness around food and cooking, you ask?

The Herbal and Spiced Culinary Tarot

Go from feeling stuck in a food rut to getting your culinary juices flowing.

This deck marries my love of the culinary and the healing arts, offering a new creative outlet for self-care in the kitchen.

This deck was created for cooks who have never touched a tarot deck before as well as seasoned tarot pros. It uses food analogies to help you contemplate your emotional state, then offers suggested foods and herbs to match your state of mind.

This deck is different from other tarot decks because it…

1) Offers insight as to how to use food and cooking as a source of healing, regardless of what’s in your kitchen: the quality of your food comes down to the spirit that you bring to your cooking. Our deck helps you get in the mindset to bring your heart and soul to your meals.

2) Uses whimsical culinary analogies to tell the story of the classic archetypes of the tarot: feel intimidated by learning to cook or learning to read tarot? Our fun anecdotes about the culinary world will offer a different fun insight into each of the cards, satiating your sense of curiosity.

3) Suggests herbs that will help you grow your culinary arsenal: our culinary tarot helps you to explore new herbs, giving you new sources of inspiration.

The Major Arcana (the trump cards in a tarot deck) have been replaced by culinary characters like The Picky Eater, The Farmer, and The Feast. These characters bring a new perspective to classic lessons about life, love, and all the lessons in-between.

The following liberties have been taken with the Minor Arcana:

  • Wands, the suit of creativity and inspired action, have been replaced by Mushrooms. I love the idea of the natural intelligence of mushrooms supporting you on your individual and original journey.

  • Cups, the suit of intuition and relationship-building, remains Cups. Who can resist the perfect pairing of food and beverage, and who doesn’t love bonding with a stranger over a loved one over a delightful liquid refreshment?

  • Pentacles, the suit of financial and Earthly matters, have been replaced by Oysters. Oysters are a fascinating resource. They are essential to their ecosystem and for centuries were an inexpensive source of protein for the working class. At the same time, they are now a symbol of leisure and pleasure. This dichotomy make them perfect to explore how we think about our resources..

  • Swords, the suit where emotion and intellect meet, have been replaced by Tools. We rarely think of our culinary tools in the kitchen as instruments of violence, and yet they transform ingredients from one form to another. We must be careful to separate feelings from facts in order to make decisions for our highest good.
